The invention relates to a process for obtaining chlorides of aromatic acids and 3-chlorophthalide from the corresponding aromatic acids and o-pentachloroxylene. According to this process, on the one hand, the mixture of starting substances and, on the other hand, the catalyst are charged, heated up to 180 degrees C while removing the HCl formed and the reaction products obtained are separated.
