abstract Substituted phthalimides and their use. Certain substituted phthalimides such as N- (3-trifluoro-methyl-4-nitrophenyl) phthalimide, and N- (3,5-dimethoxyphenyl) phthalimide are useful for modifying the development of reproductive components of plants of the corn genus. The present invention is particularly useful for providing compositions which modify the growth of plants of the corn genus by modifying the sexual reproduction of such plants.
