titleOfInvention COMPOSITIONS OF RESINOUS MATERIALS BASED ON ETHYLENICALLY UNSATURATED ACIDS FOR THE PREPARATION OF AQUEOUS PAINTS
abstract Compositions for aqueous paints. They comprise I a water-soluble resin and II a polymer which can be dispersed in water and comprising at least one group selected from hydroxyl and carboxyl groups, with optionally III one or more crosslinking agents selected from amino resins, blocked isocyanates and polymers. epoxy resins, the water-soluble resin I being obtained by polymerization of 50 to 99.5% by weight of an alkyl ester of an alpha beta-monoethylenically unsaturated acid or of an alkenyl benzene with 0.5 to 20% by weight of an alpha, beta-monoethylenically unsaturated acid and 0 to 30% by weight of a hydroxyalkyl ester of an alpha beta -monoethylenically unsaturated acid, in the presence of one or more unsaturated compounds chosen from alkyd resins having a polymerizable unsaturated group, epoxy esters having a polymerizable unsaturated group, drying oils, fatty acids from drying oils and polymers of dienes, and water solubilization of the polymer product with ammonia or an amine. The paints prepared with these products provide coatings which combine excellent physical characteristics with superior gloss and rust resistance.
