titleOfInvention ABSORBENT POLYMER COMPOSITION BY POLYMERIZATION OF ACRYLONITRILE ON SUBSTRATES CONTAINING STARCH
abstract Absorbent polymer composition. These compositions are prepared by graft polymerizing acrylonitrile onto flour or other starch-containing substrates, followed by subjecting the flour-polyacrylonitrile graft copolymers to alkaline saponification. The present invention is particularly useful for providing compositions prepared from gelatinized flours which absorb 1800 to 3000 times their weight of deionized water.
