abstract | Oxazolidinone derivs. of formula (I) are new: (where Ar is opt. substd. aryl or heterocyclic; R is cycloalkyl or opt. branched alkyl). They are prepd. by reacting a 3-aryloxy-1,2-epoxypropane Ar-O-CH2-CH-CH2 (II) with a carbamate R1O-CO-NHR in presence of an alkali metal hydride. (where R1 is opt. branched alkyl, aryl or aralkyl). (I) are used in prepn. of aryloxypropanolamines (IV) useful as beta-adrenergic receptor blockers. (IV) can be obtd. simply and in good yield (ca 90%) in a 1-step process from (I) in alkaline medium. A claimed (I) is 5-(1-naphtyloxymethyl)-3-isopropyl-oxazolidin-2-one. |
