titleOfInvention ALUMINOUS POROUS BODY OBTAINED BY AGGLOMERATION OF POWDERS
abstract Prodn. of porous refractory alumina agglomerates (for adsorption and catalysis applications) by moistening and agglomerating an alumina powder, and activating by firing is improved in that at least a part of the powder particles (>=15 wt.%) are prepd. by dehydrating a bayente-contg. alumina hydrate in a stream of hot gases (bayerite is alumina trihydrate). The use of bayerite results in very high mechanical strength of alumina agglomerate (up to 18 kg. per 3-4 mm. sphere) preserved to a certain degree at temps. up to 1000 degrees C (up to 7.3 per 3-4 mm. sphere). Combination of bayerite with other types of alumina have high macroporosity (total porosity may reach 0.95 cm3/g.) and specific surface area (up to 400 m2./g.).
