titleOfInvention | NEW SATURATED POLYESTER, PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION AND APPLICATION TO THE MAKING OF THERMOSETTING MOLDING MATERIALS |
abstract | Linear satd. polyester, of mol. wt. 4000-6000 pref. 4800-5500, of formula: where A is 44-47 mole %, B is 44-47 mole %, and c is 6-12 mole % w.r.t. a + b + c; d is 0 or 1 and e is 0 or 1 (d + e = 1); f is 0 or 1 and g is 0 or 1 (f + g = 1) and X is -O-CH2CH2OCH2CH2- is new. The polyester is used as additives to unsatd. polyester resin moulding compsns. including those reinforced with glass fibres so that when the mouldings are hardened no shrinkage occurs due to cross-linking. Properties such as high surface smoothness result which were difficult to produce with known unsatd. polyester alone, or those admixed with high mol. acrylic or vinyl thermoplasts. Typical uses are for moulding car and boat bodies and furniture parts. |
