abstract |
The enzymes are fixed by covalent bond to the unpolished surface of an aluminium agitator which is immersed in the fluid to be treated and rotated about a vertical axis. Elements sepd. by the enzymes are gathered by gravity in a receiver below the agitator. The installation pref. comprises a vertical cylinder contg. an axial vertical shaft which rotates attached, broad blades of rough-surfaced aluminium to which enzymes have been fixed, a removable tray to gravity-collect sepd. elements beneath the rotor, an inlet at the bottom of the vessel for fluid to be treated and an overflow outlet at the top. The process is used for e.g. the recovery of plastic material from a ground mixt. of plastic and paper labels, using cellulase to ge rid of the paper. Controlled agitation, e.g. with variable speed rotor shaft and variable pitch blades, results in greatly accelerated treatment. |
