titleOfInvention PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING ALCOYL SULPHONIC ACIDS
abstract Alkylsulphonic acids are prepd. by oxidising alkyl mercaptans or dialkyl sulphides in an inert medium with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of ammonium molybdate an alkali metal molybdate, ammonium tungstate. Easily controlled process giving good prod. yields. Practically pure prods. can be obtained. Reaction is pref. effected in an aqs. medium in the presence of >=5 times the molar amount of water relative to the alkyl mercaptan or dialkyl sulphide. The concn. of catalyst is 10-2-1 mole %, based on alkyl mercaptan or dialkyl sulphide.
