titleOfInvention NEW PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF (AMINO-4 'PHENYL) -2 AMINO-5 BENZIMIDAZOLE
abstract 2-(4'-Amino-phenyl)-5-amino-benzimidazole (A) is prepd. by condensing p-nitrobenzoic acid (I) with aniline, di-nitrating the N-(4'-nitrobenzoyl)-aniline (II) obtd. to form N-(4'-nitrobenzoyl)-2,4-dinitroaniline (III), reducing (III) to the corresponding triamine (IV) and cyclo-dehydrating (IV) to (A). Process also relates to prepn. of the 6-Cl-or 6-alkyl-deriv. of (A). (A) is an inter. in the prepn. of polyazo dyes. (A) can be prepd. economically, in high yields, from readily available materials.
