titleOfInvention NEW USE OF CATALYSTS AND ITS APPLICATION TO THE POLYMERIZATION OF CYCLOOLEFINS
abstract A catalyst for polymn. of olefins, esp. cyclo-olefins, consists of (a) carbonyl or carbonyl-metal-carbene cpd. of Mo or W, and (b) TiCl4. The catalyst has high activity. (a) the carbonyl pref. has formula M(CO)yLz or Lx(CO)5-x MC(R)R', where L is an amine, ether, nitrile, ketone, pyridine, phosphine, arsine, stibine or a trihalide of P, As or Sb, M is Mo or W, R and R' and R1, OR3, SR1, NHR1 or NR1R2, where R1 and R2 are H or a hydrocarbon residue, R3 is H, a hydrocarbon residue or a quat. ammonium gp., z=0-5, y=6-zN, N is the number of polar gps. in L, and x=0 or 1. Pref., R is XR4, where X is O, S or N, R4 is an alkyl or aryl residue or a quat. ammonium gp., R' is a 1-12C alkyl or aryl residue, and L is an amine, phosphine, arsine or stibine.
