titleOfInvention | DEPEROXIDATION PROCESS OF CYCLOHEXYL HYDROPEROXIDE |
abstract | Cyclohexyl hydroperoxide (I) is deperoxidised to a mixt. comprising mainly cyclohexanol, cyclohexanone, 6-halohexanal and 6-halohexanoic acid, by treating the (I) with a soln. in acetonitrile (opt. in the presence of water) of a pair of cpds. of Fe and/or Cu having a variable valency, such that one cpd. of one metal is in its lowest valency state and one provides at least a stoichiometric amt. of a halide of one of the metals in its highest valency state, with respect to the (I). Process gives good conversion of (I) into products useful as raw materials in polyamide chemistry. The Cu (I) or Fe (II) cpds. used may be e.g. inorg. acid- or aliphatic carboxylic acid salts e.g. the sulphate, chloride, acetate, propionate and/or lactate. The Cu (II) or Fe (III) halide used may be e.g. the chloride, bromide and/or iodide. Generally 0.01-0.5 gram atom Cu (U) or Fe (II) (as Cu or Fe) and 1-10 mol. (esp. 1.1-4 mol) of the Cu (II) or Fe (III) halide is used on (I). The reaction is carried out at 0-100 degrees C, esp. 20-50 degrees C in a 1-50 wt. %, esp. 2-30 wt. % acetonitrile soln. of (I) which pref. contains 10-60 wt. % water. |
