titleOfInvention Anti-inflammatory diphenyl imidazo-isoquinolines - imidazo-phthalazines, imidazo-quinolines, imidazo-quinoxalines and imidazo-quinazolines
abstract Cpds. of formula (I) and their acid-addn. and quat. ammonium salts are pharmacologically active - where -X-Z is Ar1, Ar2, indep. is phenyl, hydroxyphenyl or (1-4C alkoxy)-phenyl; U, W indep. is N or CR >=1 being CR; R is H, aryl or a bivalent radical joined to the benzazine ring to form a condensed, aromatic, carbocyclic ring on the benzazine ring and when the molecule carries two R gps. these may be the same or different. The polycyclic ring and any aryl or bivalent radical represented by R may be substd. by one or more pharm. acceptable gps. 2, 3-Diphenylimidazo-(2, 1-a)-isoquinoline; 2, 3-bis-(p-methoxyphenyl)-imidazo-(2, 1-a)-isoquinoline; 2, 3-bis-(p-methoxyphenyl)-imidazo-(2, 1-a)-phthalazine and their quaternary ammonium and acid addn. salts, are specif. claimed. Cpds. (I) are useful as antiinflammatories which are administered in formulations and dosages similar to those of the analogous cpds. described in GB 1347493.
