abstract Fat- and oil-removing compsn. consists mainly of a base-catalysed enthoxylate of a prim. alcohol of formula: R1R2O(C2H4O)navH (I) (where R1 is linear alkyl and R2 is a gp. of formula: -CH3CH2-, in which R3 is H or mixts. of H and =70wt.% 1-4C alkyl, and R1 and R2 together form an ave. 9-15 C-contg. alkyl gp., and >=65 wt. % of this gp. has chain-length of plus-or-minus C within mean value, and 3.5nav 6.5, provided that total wt. concn. of components with n = 0 is =5wt.% and total wt. concn. of components in which n = 2 to 7 is >=63%). Hydrophilic/lipophilic ratio (HLB) of (I) is 9.5-11.5 (10-11.1). Compsn. is free from other alkoxylated nonionics. Used for washing, esp. machine-washing textiles, including synthetics; also cleaning and degreasing other surfaces, e.g., in metal working, and cleaning hard surfaces, e.g., walls and floors. Compsn. is capable of loosening and/or emulsifying organic hydrophobic dirt, e.g., hydrocarbon oils, complex fats, e.g., triolein, long-chained glycerides and body dirt.
