titleOfInvention Granulated ion exchanger contg thermo-plastic binder - and pore former, giving high mechanical strength and rupture resistance
abstract Granulated ion exchanger, contg. ionite (I) and pore former (II), also contains a thermoplastic binder (III), the proportion of these components being 20.0-40.0 (wt.)% (III), 75.0-60.0% (I) and 5.0-0% (II). (III) pref. is polyethylene, a fluoro-copolymer which can be extruded, esp. a copolymer of C3F6 and CH2:CF2 in 6:1 molar ratio, polypropylene or a blend of polyethylene and polyvinyl alcohol in 10:1 wt. ratio. The ion exchanger is used in the sepn. of non-ferrous and rare metals, esp. Cu, Ni, Co, Au etc., in continuous ion exchange processes, esp. treatment of water for power stations; as catalysts in organic syntheses; and for processes involving sorption of toxic or partic. valuable materials, which must not be lost with broken down ion exchanger. These materials have satisfactory exchange capacity, together with high mechanical strength high resistance to attrition and homogeneous granulation and do not rupture when the osmotic pressure changes.
