abstract Mixed hydrate of dicalcium aluminate and tobermorite is obtd. by hydrating, at 10-100 degrees C, a calcium aluminate in the presence of Portland cement or its clinker, prehydrate or not, and working with 5-70% dry solids, the mixt. is agitated until reaction is complete, then dried to recover the powder useful as a whitener for emulsion paints and paper mfr. Has high whiteness and opacity. The impalpable hexagonal particles have high covering power.
