titleOfInvention N,N-Dialkylamides of unsaturated aliphatic acids - obtd. by forming mixed anhydride using catalyst, and reacting with amine
abstract N,N-Dialkylamides (e.g. acrylonitrile) of carboxylic acids of formula: CHR=CR1COOH are prepd. by first reacting the unsaturated acid with an anhydride of a lower aliphatic carboxylic acid or ketene to form the corresponding mixed ahydride which is then reacted with a secondary amino: R3NHR4, (where R is H or CH3 when R1 is H, or R1 is H or CH3 when R is H and R3, and R4 are indep. 1-10C alkyl or together form a heterocyclic ring). The reaction is pref. carried out in two stages in the presence of polymsn. inhibitors, the first stage at 120-200 degrees C in the presence of Gp. III-VIII metal salts or basic catalysts of Gp. I or II. and the second stage pref. at -10 to 100 degrees C. The reaction is pref. in the absence of light. Catalyst is e.g. phosphoric and sulphuric acid, ketene, ZnCl2 pref. FeCl3 or metal hydroxides, pref. LiOH.
