abstract The novel title cpd. of formula (I) is prepd. by reacting 4-methyluracil and equimolar amt. of N-methyl-D-glucosamine in aq. medium at 20-50 degrees C and recovered either by cooling to crystallise or drying by sublimation. (I) is useful in treatment of ulcers (gastric or duodenal), slow-healing burns, wounds, cystitis, colitis, etc., used e.g. as tablets contg. 0.25-5g or as 5% aq. solns. and also a nutrient for yeast. In animal tests is restores leucocyte count following benzene poisoning, inhibits the nephrotoxic effect of amphotericin B and stimulates the antiviral action of serum and the macrophages of the abdominal cavity.
