(I): is prepd. from 3(-N-carbethoxy N-methyl amino-3,4,6-tridesoxy 2-O ethoxy carbonyl D-xylo-hexopyranoside by benzylating free OH groups, introducing a reactive 2-chloro atom condensing this with 4-O- 2'-(N-carbobenzoxy)amino 2'-desoxy 3'-O-benzyl 4',6'-O-isopropylidene alpha, D-glucopyranosyl 1,3-dibenzyloxycarbonyl 2-desoxy strepamine sepg. the alpha-isomer then introducing the 3" methyl amino group by reduction of the 3"-methyl azido group and removing blocking groups.
