titleOfInvention Opaque, white, porous, liquid absorbing polymer sheet - for chromatography, filtration, photographic receptive sheet etc
abstract An opaque, light reflecting, porous and liquid absorbing polymen layer is formed from a compsn. comprising the polymen, a volatile solvent for the polymer and a diluent or mixt. of diluents for the polymen soln. which has a volatility at most equal to that of the solvent. The improvement comprises forming the layer by spraying the compsn. onto a support using an air or other gas jet under pressure. The layer is then opt. detached from the support. The layer may be used in chromatography, filtration, photographic receptive sheets etc. Previous methods of forming such layers or sheets give impermeable and non-absorbing products. The above process is also applicable for non-planar supports and may be used, e.g. for coating a spherical concave surface to form a Pulfrich integration sphere. The layer or sheet is white and pigmentless. A typical compsn. claimed comprises a polyvinyl formal or other acetal, CH2Cl2, MeOH and BuOH.
