titleOfInvention Fire-retardant co-polyether-esters - contg 2-cyanoethyl phosphonium bromides
abstract Thermoplastic co-polyether esters, contg. long-chain and short-chain ester units linked head-to-tail and produced by reaction of (A) >=1 dicarboxylic acid of mol. wt. 300, or its ester, forming derivs., (B) >=1 diol of mol. 250 or its ester-forming derivs., and (C) >=1 poly (alkylene oxide) glycol of mol. wt. 400-4000 and C/O ratio of 2.0-4.0 or its ester-forming derivs., are mixed with a sufficient amount of (D) phosphonium bromides (NCCH2CH2)4 P+Br- or (NCCH2CH2)3-P+-CH2CH2-P+(CH2CH2CN)3)Br-2 to give fire-retardant properties. Content of (D) is >=2, pref. 5-15 parts per 100 of copolymer. (D) is fully compatible with the polymers and does not cause loss of properties or migrate to the surface. The compsns. are suitable for mfr. of tubes for carrying flammable liquids, jackets for vehicle ignition leads, electrical cables and hydraulic pipes, etc.
