Low foam surfactant for use in industrial cleansing and automatic dishwashers has the formula I (where R1 is 7-22C alkyl or alkenyl, or mono- or bicyclic alkaryl having 8-12C alkyl; R2 is 1-10C alkyl, cyclohexyl, alkylcyclohexyl, or (C3H6O)m-(C2H4O)n-R1; n is 1-30; and m is 5050, with the proviso that n: m is at least 1:1, esp. 1.1:1 to 6:1). Pref. I is prepd. by reacting II with III, in the presence of an acid catalyst. R1-(OC2H4)n-(OC3H6)m-OH CH2=CH-O-R2. |
