abstract The detergent and cleaner composition contains, based on the total weight of the composition, (a) 2 to 40 % by weight of at least one water-soluble non-ionic surfactant, (b) 0.1 to 5 % by weight of a water-soluble gelatin and water. The surfactant (A) is (a) a tertiary oxide of the formula: R1R2R3Y->O (I) (b) an amide of the formula: R4-CO-N(H)m-1(R5OH)3-m (II) (c) an adduct of 3 to 25 mol of ethylene oxide and 1 mol of an organic hydrophobic compound or a mixture of such surfactants. R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, Y and m in the formulae have the meanings stated in Claim 1. The hydrophobic compound is aliphatic or alkylaromatic in nature. It contains 8 to 24 carbon atoms and at least one reactive hydrogen atom. The gelatin (B) has a molecular weight of at least 12,500, an isoelectric point between pH 4.5 and 9.2, and a gel strength between 25 and 300 Bloom grams. The detergent and cleaning composition is suitable for the cleaning of glass, porcelain and glazed or enamelled articles. Its run-off is excellent and it leaves behind neither a film nor streaks or spots.
