abstract A method of carrying out a reaction between a thin film of org. liq. and a gaseous medium is as follows: the liq. is deposited on a revolving reaction surface; the speed of revolution is sufficient to cause the liq. to spread continuously as a thin film outwards towards the circumference of the surface; predominantly undiluted gas is projected onto the film so that reaction takes place between gas and film at sub-atmos. press.; the reaction prods. are removed after they leave the revolving surface at the periphery. Pref., the revolving surface is continuously cooled. Prefd. appts. comprises a fixed housing, in which a hollow, internally cooled revolving disc is used to produce the thin film. Reaction prods., collected at the periphery, are sepd. into liq. and gaseous constituents.
