1371440 Silica adsorbant MOSKOVSKY GOSUDARSTVENNY UNIVERSITET IMENI MV LONONOSOVA 6 June 1972 26265/72 Heading C1A [Also in Division B1] A wide pore silica adsorbent for use in chromatography is made by forming a suspension of non-porous silica, adding a modifying agent to the suspension, drying to form a gel and then a xerogel and grinding the xerogel. The suspension of silica may be in water, in which case the modifying agent is selected from hydroxides of metals or of ammonia salts of alkali or alkaline earth metals or carbon black or the dispersion agents may be an organic solvent and thus the modifying agent may be polyphenyldisiloxane or a polycondensation product of phenolphthalein and phthalic acid. After drying the xerogel but prior to grinding it may be calcined in air or an inert atmosphere at a temperature of from 250‹ to 900‹ C. The concentration of hydroxides or ammonium salts may be from 1 to 40%, carbon content 1 to 60% and the polyphenyldisiloxane or said poly condensation product from 2 to 10%, all by weight of silica. |
