A compsn. comprises a mixt of a low m.wt vinyl oligomer and a high m.wt. hard resin. The oligomer reduces the melt index and viscosity of the resin-whole not affecting its hardness. Specifically the oligomer is based on a monomer of formula: where R' is H, alkyl, aminoalkyl, hydroxyalkyl, cycloalkyl, or aryl and R is H or CH3. Other specified monomers are styrene, acrylonitrile, PVC, PVAc, vinylpyrrolidone or vinyl butyral. The oligomer chain contains 4-25 monomer units, has a narrow m.wt. distribution, a Tg >30 degrees C and a heterogeneity index =2. The hard resin is chosen from cellulose esters, nylons, epoxy resins, silicones, polysulphides, vinyl resins, polyacetals, polycarbonates, polysulphones, polyphenylene oxides, polyimides, polyxylylenes, polyolefins, polyvinyl halides, acrylic resins, chlorinated polyethers, halogenated polyolefins alkyds and polyesters. The compsn. are used for coating, e.g. in automobile industry. |
