abstract Oral, veterinary composition contg. as active component beta-methylumbelliferone is used for treating bacterial infections of male and female genitals, and of joints, and also used for prophylaxis against Brucella infections in man. It is prepd e.g. by methylation of umbelliferone. The cpd. is active at 1/3000 against Brucella abortus, it is stable, attaches itself selectively to the genital regions and, because of its small molecule, penetrates membranes readily making it effective in treating joint infections.
