titleOfInvention Triiodothyroacetic acid salts prepn - with metals and organic bases
abstract Title salts of formula (I): (in which M is (1) an alkali metal or the cation of an org. base (salts soluble in water) or (2) one gram-equiv. or a metal other than an alkali metal (water-insol. salts)) are prepd. (1) by reacting triiodothyroacetic acid in alcoholic-aq. soln in the cold with the stoichiometric amt. of an alkali base or an organic base, evaporating the resulting soln. in vacuo, and comminuting and drying the resulting salt, or (2) by reacting a soluble salt of triiodothyroacetic acid in alcoholic-aq. soln. in the cold with a soluble salt of a metal other than an alkali metal salt, and filtering off, washing and drying the pptd. salt. The salts have hypolipaemic and hypocholesterolaemic activity and activity against cellulitis. The soluble salts can be used in injections, and when applied topically give improved percutaneous absorption. Where the cation is pharmacologically active. this activity is allied with the activity of triiodothyroacetic-acid.
