titleOfInvention Anionic polymerisation of pyrrolidone and piperidone - using non metallic catalysts destroyable by heat
abstract Omega-lactams, esp. alpha-pyrrolidone and piperidone are polymerised by adding directly to the medium in the absence of OH ions, quaternary ammonium salts of acidic organic cpds. having a pK of ca 14-30. Catalysts where the acid part is alpha-pyrrolidone, alpha-piperidone, epsilon -caprolactam, a higher lactam, MeOH, EtOH, PrOH, BuOH, t-BuOH, an imide or an active methylene or hydrazo cpd. (such as fluorene, malonic esters or carbazole) are new. Quaternary ammonium lactimates are new. Salts may be prepd. by reaction of the weak acid with an alcoholate in a solvent in which the acid is soluble but the salt is not. Catalysts have high activity stay dry for a long while and are easily purified.
