titleOfInvention Organo polysiloxane hollow filaments - for artificial kidneys and lungs and cardio-vascular surgery
abstract Hollow filaments of vulcanised organopolysiloxane have a circular cross section of external dia. (D) of 0.5-3 mm and internal diameter (d) such that 100 (D-d)/2D = 4 to 20. Used in prodn. of tubular exchangers for artificial lungs and kidneys and in cardio-vascular surgery. The filaments have a regular cross-section and thin walls which are resistant to internal pressure. They are prepd. by room temp. extrusion of a compsn. contg. an organopolysiloxane of structural units: R'O Si(R)2O R' (R are same or differential hydrocarbyl opt. substd.; Rn, are same or different H or SiR3; n is 2000-20000, >=60% of R being Ch3 and 0.03-2% vinyl).
