| abstract | In a process for applying an edge binding strip to a panel with a curbed contour, a dummy strip identical with that required is placed around the panel and a moulding is made around the assembly. The dummy edge strip is then removed and a liquid hardenable elastomer is forced into the cavity formed by removal of the dummy edge strip. After hardening the mould is removed. The process yields cast edge strips with good adhesion to panels of complex contour, particularly of spheroidal graphite. The dummy edge strip may be formed in a number of sections joined together after treating the panel with an adhesive e.g. epoxide or acrylic resin in a volatile solvent. The mould may be of metal or wood and after removal of the dummy edge strip the cavity is filled with a hardenable elastomer, pref. a polysulphide, a polyurethane or a silicone rubber. |
