| abstract | D- or DL-D-homo-estradiol 3-methyl ether 17a-acetate (I): an intermediate for the anabolic agent 19-nor-D-homotestosterone, is produced in a simple single-stage process by (a) reducing 3-methoxy-delta-homo-estra-1,3,5(10), 8(9), 14(15)-pentaen-17 a beta-ol 17 a-acetate with a mixture of trifluoroacetic acid and triethyl-silane in an inert organic solvent medium (pref. CH2Cl2 or C6H6) and (b) isolating the desired product. The yield is 25-30%. |
