abstract Alpha-beta unsaturated ketones. Unsatd. ketones are formed from the unsatd. cpds. by heating at 20-120 degrees C (esp. 20-30 degrees C) in e.g. t-butanol with a Pt-metal cpd. esp. a Pd complex. High yield of pure product is obtained and catalyst may be regenerated. (where R1-4 are same or diff. H., alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, aryl, or heterocyclic but R4 is not = H R5-10 are H, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl, aryl, or heterocyclic).
