titleOfInvention | Silane/silicic acid or amine silicate copolym - ers as keying agents |
abstract | Keying agent for keying reinforcing materials to organic resins, e.g. for treating glass fibres prior to bonding with organic resins, consists of 25-90% of the total available Si in the form of an organo silane of formula R-SiX(4-n) (where R is 1-18C carboxyalkenyl, 1-18C alkyl, 1-18C aminoalkyl, 1-18C thioalkyl or epoxy substd. 1-18C alkyl; H is OH, halogen 1-6C alkoxy, aryloxy or amino; n is 1-3) and 10-75% of the total available silicic acid in the form of a cpd. which is (1) an amine silicate with a degree of polymerisation 1000, which amine component can be at least one amine of formula I R1R2R3N (where R1-R3 are H, 1-6C alkyl or 1-6C alkanol providing that R1-R3 are not simultaneously H) or morpholine II, or cyclohexylamine III, this amine being present in amt. >=0.1 mol per mol silicic acid in the form of amine silicate; or (2) a co-reactive Si cpd. of formula Si(O)m(X)(4-2m) k (where m is 0 or 1; k is 1-1000; X is OH, halogen, alkoxy, aryloxy or amino). Pref. this amine silicate is dimethylamine silicate or ethanol amine silicate, the organo silane is e.g. vinyl triethoxy silane, gamma-aminopropyl triethoxy silane. |
