1317771 Gas-producing medicaments and cosmetics ALBERTO-CULVER CO 1 June 1970 [9 Feb 1970] 26311/70 Heading A5B [Also in Divisions B1 and C5] An aqueous liquid is contacted with a gas releasable composition to release gas from the composition e.g. to form a foam where the composition comprises a substantially non aqueous mixture containing from 20-90% by weight of a water soluble organic solvent having dissolved therein from 1-20% by weight of the composition of a gas which exists as a gas at substantially ambient temperature and which exists as a liquid at said temperature under a superatmospheric pressure and the composition has a vapour pressure in the range of 0-10 p.s.i.g. measured at 25‹C and not greater than 15 p.s.i.g. measured at 50‹C. In a modification the organic solvent may comprise 10-25% by weight and the gas 10-25% of the composition. The composition may be a solid, liquid, paste or gel and may be a solid cleanser (Ex 1), a detergent tablet (Ex 2) a semi solid suppository (Ex 3), shave cream (Ex 4, 5, 19, 20), a foaming mouthwash (Ex 6), a liquid drain cleaner (Ex 7), a gas producing enema (Ex 8 and 9), a foamable toothpaste (Ex 10, 11, 12), or a hair shampoo (Ex 13-18). The organic solvent may comprise polyethylene glycol 400, propylene glycol, or the monobutyl ether of diethylene glycol. The gas may be C 3 to C 6 saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon or a halogenated C 1 to C 2 saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon e.g. trichlorofluoromethane or dichlorotetrafluoroethane. |
