titleOfInvention | Nicotinates from nicotinoyl halides |
abstract | NICOTINIC ACID ESTER VASODILATORS. G3A. Are prepared by esterification of nicotinic acid in the form of the acid chloride with polyfructosans in the presence of an acid binding agent e.g. a tert. base such as pyridine, if necessary in an inert solvent e.g. CHCl3. Specifically nicotinic acid chloride (3 mols) is reacted with inulin (1 mol) to give inulin trinicotinate. The rapid absorption of nicotinic acid and some derivs. from the gastro-intestinal tract frequently produces undesirable effects such as reddening and burning of the skin due to its vasodilatory action. The esters of the invention ensure slow release of the nicotinic acid and obviate these undesirable results. |
