titleOfInvention Organic nitrate bile acid inclusion compounds
abstract Inclusion compounds of bile acids and organic nitrates selected from glyceryl trinitrate, penta-erythritol tetranitrate, mannitol hexanitrate, erythritol tetranitrate and isosorbide dinitrate. Complexes are readily absorbed from the gastro-intestinal tract. The organic nitrates above are mainly used in treatment of angina pectoris. Solution of bile acid and organic nitrate in inert solvent which dissolves both. Product crystallises. Preferred molar ratio of nitrate:bile acid is 1:2. Desoxycholic acid (2.35 g.) and PETN (316 mg) were dissolved in 20 ml. of a 1:1 mixture of methanol and benzene with warming. The soln. was cooled to 0 deg.C and the crystals which separated were collected to give a PETN/desoxycholic acid complex with a ratio of 1:2. The mother liquors gave a mixture of inclusion compounds having a PETN/bile acid ratio of from 3:1 to 6:1.
