abstract | Sodium cyanoborohydride (NaBH3CN) is prepd. by reacting NaBH4 with substantially anhyd. HCN in the gas phase. Spec. the reaction is carried out at between ambient and 200 degrees C, pref. 50-150 degrees C, with the HCN added at a rate equiv. to the rate of reaction. The product is new and is used as a reductant for aldehydes, ketones and reductive aminations. |
