titleOfInvention Continuous esterification of dicarboxylic - acids with alcohols
abstract Esterification, partic. of terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol is carried out with intensive mixing of the ground dicarboxylic acid with the alcohol vapour so that the alcohol condenses on the surface of the dicarboxylic acid and ensures the necessary reaction temp. of 240 - 320 degrees C. The liquid coated dicarboxylic acid particles are deposited on built-in heated elements and the soln. and esterification is carried out in a reaction zone having one of these heated elements in the presence of excess alcohol vapour and/or an inert gas heated to reaction temp. which acts as a flushing medium for the water vapour produced in the reaction.
