titleOfInvention Indirect fire evaporator for cryogenic - liquids
abstract Cryogenic liquids (i.e. liquified gases) are evaporated in a system contg. a fixed amount of a heating medium which can be vaporised, normally water. The process comprises a closed vessel in which the medium is placed, the lower part contg. a submerged firing tube with a burner at one end and a chimney at the other, the upper part contg. tubes in which the cryogenic liquid is vapourised. The heating medium is boiled and the vapour concleuses on the tubes, heating the liquid inside. Because of the high condensing film heat transfer coefficients (2000 to 3000 Btu/hr. ft2 degrees F) an ice film does not form and smooth operation is ensured. This contrasts with direct fired units which ice up rapidly from the moisture in combustion products.
