A mixture of cpds. contng. the desired elements and a thermally decomposable, strongly complexing org. cpd. is mechanically ground to form a viscous soln. Treatment is effected at a temp. between the precursor soln. solidification point and 150 degrees C. The soln. is dehydrated at 0 - 50 mm. Hg for 60 mins. pref. 40 mins., opt. as a simultaneous process with grinding. The vitreous product is then calcined to form a crystalline oxide e.g. spinels, ferrites, perorskites, pyrochlores, useful as ceramics, dielectrics, in magneto-optic, electronic or similar fields. The necessity of solvent addition with its inherent problem of precipitation during the concentration stage is entirely eliminated. |
