abstract Water-sol. humates are prepd. from lignite by forming a homogeneous mixt. of a small amount of one or more alkaline humates with powdered lignite, an alkaline base and water and heating the mixt. opt. under press. Pref. 0.5-5% by wt. of lignite of alkaline humates are added to the initial mix. 5-20% urea is also added when NaOH or KOH is used. Reaction time is short and the product is immediately useful.
