titleOfInvention Optically sensitised silver halide emulsions
abstract A red sensitising dyestuff is of the formula: where A and B each represent an atom(s) required to complete a heterocyclic ring, R1, R2, R3 and R4 are each alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl or aralkyl and X is an anion, and where R1, R2, R3 and R4 may be identical or different. Preferably a silver chloride/bromide or silver bromide/iodide emulsifier is used, X is preferably Cl-, Br-, I-, ClO4-, NO3-, SCN-, alkyl sulphate or aryl sulphonate and the heterocyclic ring is preferably a thiozole, oxazole, or a selenazole ring. The colour coupler is preferably an alpha-naphthol. The dyestuffs show a balanced sensitising curve free from pronounced sensitising maxima, and the colour coupler enhances the sensitising intensity of the dyestuffs.
