titleOfInvention Stabilisation of 1,1,1-trichloroethane
abstract Stabilisation comprises adding to 1,1,1-trichloroethane 2 to 4% of alkyl or alkoxyalkyl esters of nitric acid of which the normal boiling point does not exceed 130 degrees C. and 0.5 to 4% of acrylonitrile and 0.1 to 1.0% of butene oxide, based on the weight of 1,1,1-trichloroethane. The preferred alkyl nitrate is isopropyl nitrate. The total amount of stabiliser is preferably 3 to 10% by weight. Additional stabilisers may be present e.g. nitromethane, isobutanol, t-butanol, amyl alcohol, ethyl or isopropyl acetate, methylacetone dimethoxyethane and N-methyl pyrrole each present in an amount 0.02 to 4% the total amount being 3 to 10%.
