abstract | An aqueous soln of a beta-halogenomonocarboxylic acid salt is extracted with a water-immiscible solvent for the beta-lactone until 75-95% of the salt is converted. The layers are separated and the aqs. layer is extracted in one or more steps with further solvent. The further solvent used in at least one of the steps is fresh solvent. The beta-halogenomonocarboxylic acid salt pref. lies. The formula: Hal-CR2-CR2COOM (wherein R (same or different) is H, or hydrocarbon which may be substituted with halogen, nitro, ester or ether groups). |
