titleOfInvention Hormone like preparations from thymus - gland
abstract Water-soluble prepn. comprises a carbohydrate containing protein (M.W. >1500 and 10,000) which has ability to stimulate lymphoid tissue proliferation when administered and thereby increased immunity of a host to infection; the prepn. also behaves a single homogeneous subst. on acrylamidegel electrophoresis in which it migrates to anode at pH 8.5, is soluble in dil. saline soln, insol. in 90% acetone and insol. in MeOH, and EtOH, and can withstand heating to 100 degrees C for 30 mins. In general, crude extract in the form of supernatant liq. from thymus gland is prepd. by homogenisation and centrifugation of thymus gland tissue; the liquid is subsequently heated to form a ppt. which is separated.
