abstract Acrylic resin is produced by copolymerising an acrylamide and another ethylenic monomer in the presence of an initiator and of a cpd. which, if organic, is free from ethylenic unsatn. and which contains an acidic group and another functional group which confers on the cpd. the property of a chain transfer agent for the copolymerisation reaction. The acrylamide is alkylolated and etherified before, during or after the copolymerisation. The acidic group in the chain transfer agent will be found in a terminal position and the N-substd. acrylamide copolymer will be self curing alone or in admixture with an epoxy or other resin without the addition of an external acid catalyst.
