abstract Compn. consisting of a complex assocn. of 2 components (a) and (b): (a) consists of is not 1 salt of a sugar phosphate, (b) consists of a phosphate of Cu2+, Mn2+, Zn2+, Ni2+, Sn2+, Fe2+, Fe3+, and Al3+, pref. Ca2+. Complex is such that is not 2% by wt. of (b) based on wt. of (a) is sol. in H2O at room temp. when total dissolved sugar phosphate and inorg. phosphate >5 pts./100 pts. of H2O by wt. Compns. provide a stable, sol. form of a normally H2O-insol. inorg. phosphate, and have a variety of uses, partic. in animal and plant nutrition. Thus compns. are effective in inhibiting the demineralization of tooth enamel in vitro, and the formation of carious lesions in man. Aq. solns. of the compns. provide phosphate and essential metal ions in a form similar to that present in biological fluids (e.g. soybean seeds treated with 0.5% soln. of compn. below have ca.30% increased viability over control seeds).
