abstract The invention provides a block chain based distributed domain registration system and method. The system includes a public chain and a subchain consisting of some nodes in the public chain. The root domain smart contract is configured at the node in the public chain. The subchain node is configured to: create a subdomain smart contract by implementing the root domain smart contract and acquire ownership of the subdomain smart contract by competitive reservation; acquire a domain to be registered, define a target domain intelligence agreement for managing the domain to be registered, and identify a target node that owns the target domain in the intelligence agreement subchain; and sending the domain registration request to the target node so that the target node decides whether to accept the domain registration request. With the domain registration system provided by the invention, domain registration is free from ICANN control, thus avoiding the threat of restriction and protection by ICANN during domain registration in the DNS system, thus improving the cyber security of parties participating in and providing online services.
