abstract | The invention relates to a computer-implemented method, a data processing system and data processing devices, and to a computer program product for determining the color of a tooth using a camera of a mobile communication device. An image of the tooth of the received object, comprising a part of the image taken by the camera of the mobile communication device only, the lighting conditions are obtained and suitable training images are selected from the training database. The training images comprise images of a model tooth of a known color. To obtain color code embeddings of the received image, K-means clustering of the received image is used, and the color code embeddings of the received image are adjusted based on the indicated lighting conditions. The color-coded dips of all selected training images are acquired to find the training image whose color-coded dips are closest to the color-coded dips of the received image, and the hue of the tooth in the received image is determined to be the same as the model tooth whose color-coded dips are closest to the received image. The tooth color information of the specified tooth hue is communicated back to the mobile device from which the image was received. |
